There's this kid at school who keeps trying to tell me that 95% of rap is garbage. I keep telling him otherwise, but I want to make sure I get my facts straight. Of all the rap artists that are known at least nation wide, what percentage is considered quality by a Hip Hop Head.

In other words, is it 75% garbage? Or is it 75% quality?

I know quality/garbage is hard to determine and is somewhat opinionated, but I want to know what you guys think.

They are 2 different type. Hip Hop on the commercial circuit has died, with the exceptional few that still pull off dope shit(ie: nas, common and shit) but the majority is filled with paul wall, unk, etc...

I voted 60%. This is for todays hip hop though. Ive been buying 80s and 90s hip hop mostly,so that doesnt count. Commercial albums for the last couple of years have been alright,never be the same as 90s. Some dope underground releases too.

In the thread title I specified Hip Hop in general. It doesn't matter what year, whether it's underground or not, what genre, etc.

And in my first post I asked what percentage is considered quality by a Hip Hop Head. Basically, what percentage of hip hop is not ignorant.

i can pick quality from every type of hip-hop ...

i listen to it all from the mainstream to the underground to the mixtape scene to the old school ...

i'm too lazy to make up a big list ... but when i go through all my albums 90% of it is quality music ...

In that case, when i go through alll my albums i hvae, 90% is quality as well, i have those few beat songs... and what not that im into.

I could be riding in my car listening to "T.I. - Top Back", I could go to the club, and listen to "MIMS - This Is Why I'm Hot", then I could head back to the house and bump "Rakim - Don't Sweat The Technique", then I could wake up and turn on "Mos Def - Hip-Hop."

Then there's that 2% that I simply don't like. For no particular reason I can pinpoint. Shit that is just not good music.

I can't say 100% is good, come on the idealistic, no genre is absolutely perect. I honestly can't make myself like "Walk it Out" or "Get wild" type songs, or diddy/new eminem/50 Cent songs, there is garbage out there, but there is more good hip hop than bad IMO
