View Full Version : 300K Is The New Platinum…

Shit is really fucked the fuck up in the rap game right now. Dudes that were selling millions of records are now having millions of downloads. The record industry is scared shitless and frankly, so am I. What if the record companies confiscate all the instruments and turntables and cassette tape recorders, a la the DJ Drama raid just because we aren’t buying enough CD’s? Shit could get that ill party people. What do you think the army is doing in Iraq? They are killing everyone that is illegally downloading oil. After they get recalled and come back here what’s to stop them from kicking in my door and shooting me in the back because I just DL’ed some white label Amy Winehouse shit. Allegedly…
I’m not saying that I download shit because I don’t have to. As a culture critic and internets celebrity most record labels just mail new shit to me for me to listen to. Incidentally, the new Prodigy project is enjoyable rap music surreality, but it won’t reach the heights of Mobb’s classic albums and neither will Redman’s latest disk ‘Red Gone Wild’. Both of these offerings are filled with the type of Hip-Hop music that made the genre ‘can’t miss’ just seven years ago. These artists will be gotdamned lucky if they even reach 300K which should be the new platinum certification number. I say 300K because that is how many units The Clipse sold for their last major label drop. Only Jay-Z gets downloaded more than the Clipse. Them dudes should have sold two million, but they were DL’ed over 1.5 million times. I don’t even like The Clipse like that but they are in the forefront of this trend that has men wearing their little sister’s skinny jeans and colorful sweathoods that zip up over your face. I give them niggas that much credit.
Do you remember when a million used to be a million? There was a time when a shitty album like that new Jeezy joint would go platinum just on G.P. Back then a million dollars was actually a million dollars too. Nowadays niggas get a million dollars for designing a can of sody pop or a fuckin’ color. That shit fucks up the game for the rest of us in the long run. While niggers are caking up off their popularity has anyone said a fucking word to us about how we can increase our wealth? Which Roth IRA mutual fund to fucks with or which 401K to put our chips in? Hell nahh! Niggers just tell you where to spend your money and how much of a chump you are if your whip ain’t 2008 or better. Y’all niggas love these niggers too. Heaven forbid I say anything about that lil’ nigger on this blog. Y’all skinny jean, chain belt wearing fanboys will flood your Tampax. So the rich get richer and we stays poorer. And dumber. And still poorer for the fact that our music, our art, and our culture becomes the landscape of the lowest common denominator.
Don’t act now like you didn’t want this to happen. I see you out there snapping your fingers and walking it out to the remake of the zip coon song. You should just go kill yourself after your grandparents boycotted buses and were bitten by German shepherds in order for you to go to a school with some competent teachers. Fuck it, I don’t care to argue with you anymore since it’s just an exercise in futility. Let’s all just let our chains hang low since we are caught up in mental slavery.

They were talking about this on T.V. today. Personally I could care less whether they are selling. Independent labels are still thriving and thats all I buy anyway.

Hip Hop is so fucked up right now that I always download a record before I buy it. This aint the late 80's and 90's where you could count on a good record being put out. I downloaded Jaggaknots' Use Your Confusion. The shit was hot so I went and bought it to add it to my collection.

People don't take iTunes into consideration. They're fuckin em up too because you can pay for individual tracks. Who's gonna buy 13 songs when 10 of them are trash?

well now RIAA is causing problems for themselves... iTunes is now forced to sell thier music as .mp4 or .mp3 format where people can now just upload anywhere and stuff...

This is due to haters who say iTunes is propriatary

RIAA will prob fight this lawsuit thats forcing Apple to do this, thus saving record sales.

But it aint looking good!

The industry dug its own grave. They ate like kings for years and disrespected the true hip hop fans that were loyal record buyers in the late nineties and early 00's. They flooded the market with over-produced garbage and forced the download revolution. I don't feel bad if aristocratic rich assholes aren't making their money, nor do i feel bad that many of these no-talent assclown rappers aren't either. They deserve. Should I really give a fuck if Jibbs or Yung Joc only sell 100K? They shouldn't even be on a record label.

I am a loyal music buyer with a collection of 1000 - 1500 real (not burned)cd's and many more dl'ed on my computer. I don't trust the mainstream stuff anymore and like Swift said, I do DL stuff often prior to purchasing because these motherfuckers have to earn my hard earned $$$$ now. I've been burned tooooo many times. Now most of my money is spent on amazon and ebay snatching up those classics from the past 20 years by artists and labels that gave a shit about releasing that real shit.

On the other hand, its a shame that a class record like hell hath no fury sold only 300K and was DL'ed that many times. People need to support their artists more, especially ones putting out fire like the clipse.

It pisses me off sometimes to think that I've easily spent $10-15,000 on my collection and theres people that spent nothing and have the same collection

Fuck these artists. Put out a better product and people will buy. I'm not spending my hard earn cash on shit records. Like (Swift) said, I only buy independents, and there doing good so I can care less about how much money T.I. or Young Jeezy are missing out on.

Jim Jones only sold about 400,000 odds in sales but he makes as much money off his album as the rappers that go platinum ...

Jigga took a flop in a way for the fact he spent roughly 20 mil promoting his new album and only sold 1 mil odds ...

as i said before ...

since rap sales are near enough at an all time low most rappers should go the Dipset & Ice Cube route and do their own thing and make the music they want to make instead of the forced singles & tracks that get cut off the albums by major labels ... destroy and rebuild ... but rappers won't do it for the fact they are lazy ... Ice Cube done it and his album was good and sold a good amount of units ...

only thing is you have to already have established a nice fanbase and buzz to get your album out on a P&D deal only (printing and distributing) and you still have to pay for all promo yourselves ...

and as i said alot of these rappers are too lazy and aint built for that ...

I try to buy as much as i can afford as a student... A friend of mine has bought like 2 albums he actually listens to downloaded the rest or got it from me... now he's bitchin' about me not givin him every album I own... that pisses me of... I really love to have the CD in my hands and to know I supported the act and also the local music store we have one in our city wich has really a whole lot of records also stuff like dalek and stuff.. I also want to support this kind of stores cuz to me it's much more fun to go there and listen to the record there before i buy it than to download it and then get it over amazon just ain't the real deal...

Judging Life from a sig are we?

What infatuation... I seemed to miss it you dumb fuck.
Talk about illiteracy... lets just take a handfull of your posts and see. Because its obvious spelling isnt your strong point, and neither is punctuation.
