Jay-z is not Top 10- CLASSIC ALBUM-WISE: according to many ppl on RW, that is.

According to x-nine's "What are 10 albums you think EVERY hiphop fan should have?" thread:

4/21 of you mofo's have included a jay-z album (3 reasonable doubt, 1 blueprint) as your top 10 albums.

whereas Nas's albums were mentioned 17 times (illmatic 15, stillmatic 1, it was written 1)

Wutang 16 times (that's not including their solo ish)

and i didnt bother counting the rest (which includes pac, big, pun, big L, ra, g rap, krs-1, nwa, snoop, icecube, az, dre, tribe, common, mos, outcast, gza, etc to name a few popular ones on the list) but u get the point..

what's your thoughts??

i don't find jay-z's albums to be in the top 10 that every fan should have, it's simple as that. maybe if they had asked for more than 10 it would be on more lists.

and not enough classic albums.

infact in some ways i think vol. 2...hard knock life is more of a classic in terms of sound.

i don't think Jay is top 10 ... he's nice lyrically, has one of the nicest flows and so on but he aint in my top 10 ... maybe somewhere in my top 20 but not my 10 ...

alot of people have rappers like Pac & Jay in their top 10 for impact & what they've achieved in hip-hop but that doesn't mean shit to me ... Diddy achieved so much but he aint in anyones top 10 ...

Jay is top ten material.....he may not have a top 10 album, but his overall discography puts a lot of rappers to shame....for that reason he barely makes my top 10....

Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt album is definitely a classic - I acknowledge this - everything else he put out is pure trash - he's lucky he made my top 50 - piece of shit biter.

neither nas nor jay are the greatest of all time for me. Nas is slightly better but I don't think it's an obvious choice. it seems to me that people more into mainstream tend to choose jay and more underground people tend to choose nas

.meZ
06-04-2007, 04:51 PM

I'm not sure if Jay-Z would still have a place in my top 3. I think he may have been pushed out by MF DOOM. Although, if you would've asked me a year ago, I probably woulda said Jay-Z is the G.O.A.T.
