With van der Sar and three of their best defenders injured, it could mean another shaky start for Manchester United. On the plus side, we'll probably get to see more of Ben Foster and Rafael.

Wolves to stay up! Baggies to stay down!

meehai 08-08-2009 06:29 AM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I think Rafael is a better bet than a fit Gary Neville anyway nowadays, bit shakier at the back, but he's fucking quick and gets forward very well...

Newcastle on BBC1 today, show the prem teams how its done

M. Applewhite 08-11-2009 01:50 PM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I'd prefer Rafael to start over Neville now anyway, he's not a shade of the player he was, comes with age I guess. Unless you're Giggsy.

Ben Foster make's me nervous... got a feeling he might end up being a flop.

But United to win again this year, Chelsea 2nd, Liverpool 3rd... not sure about 4th yet.

pH.oLL 08-11-2009 02:37 PM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Ben Foster makes me nervous too, knowing he is probably England number one at the minute and our backup is Paul Robinson :(

I really hope Joe Hart stays fit and plays so he can establish himself as our number one

Nha Capello ditched him after that performance in the Charity Shield lol, nah I think he is injured... he made that game so much lolz.

^^ He's played a good few games for Utd at this stage and has in most cases been the best performer for Utd so I don't get why one bad game means so much bullshit from people..

pH.oLL 08-11-2009 07:27 PM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Its not that he had a bad game its that when under pressure he looks like he can't handle it, which is a problem. Flapping about at crosses and getting the ball stuck in his feet a number of times, mistakes like that can be very costly and even when they aren't it puts a little doubt in the minds of the defence, 'should i pass it back to him?' and that extra second thinking can be costly.

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Whats everyone's predictions for the games this weekend?? In bold are who i think will win and so on...

Chelsea v Hull City
Aston Villa v Wigan
Blackburn v Man City - Draw
Bolton v Sunderland - Draw
Portsmouth v Fulham
Stoke v Burnley
Wolves v West Ham
Everton v Arsenal

Sunday
Man Utd v Birmingham
Spurs v Liverpool

Chelsea will obviously walk the opener of the season. I'd be surprised if they didn't even though I would love to see Ballack get minced.

Villa to win with Delph starring.

Don't think City will have gelled as of yet.

Everton to win even without Arteta. There's something about Moyes and playing Arsenal that I feel they'll always get a result. Cahill to notch one.

United will stroll..

and I would just love to see Liverpool lose so I don't have to listen to another "we'll win it claim this year"..

Also in the SPL..

The Hoops to hammer Aberdeen...If they and Villa win it will be a great weekend!

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Jack Whilsire needs to play..

The thing is when they have a midfield consisting of Fabregas, Rosicky, Nasri and Arshavin..They will be scary..My only quams with that is what everyone is saying; "Who's going nail a Steven Gerrard or a Frank Lampard in the midfield??"

meehai 08-15-2009 07:41 AM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I think fabregas is better when hes playing just off the front man, but with arshavin, nasri and rosicky, i'd put him in the Xavi role acting as a shield and dictating play... ideally they'd have a bruiser in there like Mascherano, but its still probs the best midfield in the league

edit. Watching football focus, alan hansen thinks liverpool will win the league?

pH.oLL 08-15-2009 08:03 AM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

=))=)) just seen a banner at the chelsea game "money can't buy you everything" related to City and John Terry. The irony.

I think Liverpool have a good chance, if Aquilani stays fit and lives up to the potential anyway. They are gonna struggle if they've got Lucas replacing Alonso all season. But when you consider how much of last season Torres missed and how many silly draws they should have and i believe this season will convert to wins.

Kosgrove 08-15-2009 09:25 AM

Liverpool set a record last year^ The team to lose the least amount of times and still not win the league. lol.

I fell asleep before the game came on but woke up this morning to the nicest headline I've seen in a long time. Could'nty have asked for a better start to the season. Maybe that will silence the doubters, for now.

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Although Everton were pretty shocking Arsenal impressed me more than anything by scoring from set pieces. Its a different dimension and something that can be crucial when you come up against stubborn teams and its not going for you and you can't pass them to death.

watchin Celtic (in the first half) and Arsenal games yesterday has got me fuckin buzzin even more for tuesday

i had to laugh at Cesc getting the ball from the keeper and just going up and scoring
Broony best be around him like flies on fuckin shite

thank fuck for Drogba...
his goal made me i hit the licks yesterday on my football coupon...only 400 quid but it was a nice wee windfall before i went out

and only need Man Utd, Barca & Marsielle to win tonight to get a couple hundred quid from my other coupon

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Annoying as fuck that Arsenal conceded in the 92nd minute, even though the score was 6-1 iy just shows our inability to keep a cleansheet. Aye it was very nice seeing us score from set-pieces... It was all very good that Vermaelen scored on his debut and Fabregas got a double and our other centre back scored but for me the highlight was Eduardo scoring, I really do have a massive amount of faith in this guy and I never stopped believing in his ability throughout his injury so hopefully he can have a good season... Would be worth a sneaky punt putting him down as top goalscorer.

^ fricking shocking. and i thought the palace players may have been decent enouh to score an own goal (or is that wishful thinking)

yeah arsenal were rampant... someone needs to tell wenger that bendtner is not the answer, get eduardo on so i can win my money

the new centre back looked good, arsenal are a ok bet for the title i reckon, as long as key people dont get injured...

If Arsenal really have got a good free-kick system now then I can't see defeats to teams like Hull and Stoke happening again.

Good weekend.

Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea didn't look too convincing. We looked pretty sick.

Can't wait for the game tonight now. I fancy a 2 - 0 win at Parkhead. We could have Cesc out. Think Sagna could be out too?

Kosgrove 08-18-2009 09:17 AM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Is it not certain that they will be out?^ Denilson too.

I'll go with 1-1. Will be a class game... Heading into this season I seen a lot of people underestimating Arsenal but now heading into this match it looks like lots of people are underestimating Celtic, fuck, even Celtic fans I've spoken didn't seem that optimistic.

Arsenal looked good against Everton but that was only one game so I'm gonna be counting my chickens before the eggs hatch but I said before the opening game this would be a good season for Arsenal and I will stick by that... 2nd in the league, FA Cup winners and Carling Cup winners, Champions League semi-finals. I'd be happy with that.

Brrrrruv 08-18-2009 09:33 AM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

Dunno, I read it in the paper this morning, don't know of any updates, haven't really checked.

I dunno about second in the league. We'll end up with massive injury worries again I bet. But what you said about the cups is easilly achievable.

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

harsh on celtic tonight..nice to see arsenal get some luck for a change...arsenal look a lot more impressive physically this year..really putting themselves about..vermaelen makes me excited in my pants a little bit..he is a terminator born without mercy..world class defending so far for us...its really weird to see us a little bit weaker than last year going forward..but absolutely solid at the back lol.

Kosgrove 08-18-2009 05:49 PM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I'm happy with the result but it was a pish game... Fabregas, Sagna and Denilson all turned out :s dunno what the fuss was about them being injured. Well it's a stroll now but now that Arsenal have the 2 away goals I doubt they will try that hard at the Emirates. 1-0 or something.

Patrick McCourt 08-18-2009 09:16 PM

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

shite result (on my end) & a shite game which neither team really looked like scoring (especially us)

2nd half performance was woefull...worst in Europe in a long time
mainly due to heads going right down after that first goal and a sluggish start to the 2nd half..always makin it harder on ourselves.

its the fact that we lost to two jammy bastardin goals...i would rather have lost to good goals.

that Belgian cunt at the back looks like he could be a good buy for Arsenal in the 2 games i've seem from him
can tackle, is strong, mobile, wont take shite from a moody prick Gallas and got forward.
