In big games though, like the champions league, shitty decisions can cost teams big (like when Babel fell over against us and knocked us out two seasons ago)

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I agree ^

I cant think of a sport where technology has not benefitted it.

Maybe a team should be allowed say 2 decisions per game (where they can challenge either a dive, sending off, penalty etc).

The problem is when two great teams come up against each other, it should be the fine p[layer details which matter, not if the ref is a tit

It might take a minute or two, but no worse than a spot of fake injury treatment for Didier Drogba

Obviously priority should be given as Pholl said to getting refs quicker, fitter and not so many blind victims who were obviously bullied at school who either go over the top trying to be a little Hitler, or get pushed around like a woofter

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

I don't agree with video refs taking part in deciding fouls. It will get overblown and will be expanded too far. I do want something like tennis has for the goal line to tell when the ball goes over. That wouldn't slow down the game and would be completely objective.

They 100% need that.

Doctors can operate on your brain by putting a camera through your groin, yet FIFA can't tell if a ball has crossed a line?

In a way the beauty of football is that it isn't perfect and it isn't fair...

So members of a team can dive twice, maybe pick up two bookings, then after that dive away to their hearts content? If two why not three? why not ten? why not everytime someone touches the ball (then it becomes American football).

^^ This.

Hawk-eye developed a gps technology where it tracks the ball and will flag up immediately if the whole ball crosses the line between the two posts and crossbar but FIFA rejected it saying its too expensive to implement, the money they would have to use on that would be unfairly taken away from being invested in grassroots football. So they want the two extra assistant refs because its cheaper and easier. I don't think they will be able to tell any better than anyone else can though, in real time it can be impossible to make the call no matter where you are stood.

I dont see your point... If someone chooses to dive they run the risk of a yellow anyway. every mutherfucker who dives should be instantly booked, and as they arent generally, this would stop... if someone dives twice, send him off

Two is an arbitrary number, and seems sensbible to me... more than 2 would cost over 5 mins which doesnt seem reasonable, cos it would just be too many stoppages and that wouldnt be good.

p.s. Ive been on this forum fucking ages, how do i quote someone?

The quote button is at the bottom of a persons post lol

My point was, if for example the number was set at two, and the two had been used up and then somebody dived, won a penalty and the game by that one goal, the ref had missed it there would be a big fuss kicked up about it being a dive and how two opportunities to question isn't enough and pressure to change the number so that more were available.

This kind of exists with challenges in tennis, but not to the same level. You have 2 a set and if you get two wrong, then a third ball is hit out and incorrectly called in, the fact you have twice incorrectly questioned a decision before doesn't make the third ball any less out.

Also its not easy to define a dive, and sometimes a player can dive innocently, not trying to win a penalty but for another reason. I know this because i did it the other day, it was only a 5 a side kick about, no reason to dive because nothing is gained by it in a meaningless game, i skinned someone, who stuck their leg out behind them, i saw them do this and had instinctively started to go down, before i contacted them because its gonna hurt less (on a concrete surface) if i fall under my own power than if i'm tripped and hit the floor hard. As it happened he started to pull out as i got closer, and if he'd moved a little quicker i wouldnt have contacted him at all and would have looked pretty silly. So technically it was a dive, but done innocently. Also i have seen people booked for diving when there has been a challenge, the player has been off balanced, taken a two or three steps forward and then fallen because he was off balance.

Re: The 2009/2010 Football Season Discussion Thread

ah right, the big fuck off button saying quote... makes sense

Let me revise my thoughts. Say a team gets one challenge a game, after 5 mins they use it, if the challenge is agreed (ie the ref made a fuck up and they challenged correctly) they still have their challenge available for later.

If they use their challenge after 5 mins, and the ref was initially right, then fuck em, they should have used it more wisely.

I can see as u say how it might lead to people bitching for more and more revisions, time problems etc

As for your last paragraph, there are certain times i see a decision 50 times and i cant make up my mind... if you get to see it on a slow mo from differing angles however it helps boost the chances of success up massively. Obviously even with video theres doubt for lots of decisions.
